Description
This brass sculpture was inspired by the most astounding Elephanta caves in Mumbai. The main cave is considered to be an excellent example of indian rock art and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. A majestic 17 feet tall sculpture of Panch Mukhi Shiva was carved between the 5th & 8th century. However only 3 heads of Lord Shiva are visible. The head in front represents the ultimate divine energy (Sadashiva or Maheshmurti), one of the left is fearsome (Aghora-shiva) and one on the right is blissful (Vamadeva). The central face is calm and detached, the left profile expresses the feminine and the peaceful side and the right profile reveals the fierce and masculine side. The three faces symbolise the nature of the Divine, which combines and transcends all opposites. Other sculpture have been carved on the sides of MaheshMurti, One being Parvati Maa and the other one is Shiva holding his matted hair, out emanates a female figure that is Goddess Ganga. Our statue is a combination of the various elements found at the Elephanta caves: Three Faces of Shiva, Goddess Ganga emerging from Shiva's hair and Parvati Maa on the other side.
